A Light on the Lake Since 1919
SAMBICA, (the Sammamish Bible Camp Association, historically) began as a youth Bible Conference in 1919. Founded by members of the Swedish Tabernacle Church, SAMBICA is now a not-for-profit, non-denominational Christian camp and event center.
Over the last 96 years, SAMBICA has worked hard to achieve the current level of high quality programs that benefit our campers and the surrounding community. SAMBICA is no longer a remote camp nestled in the woods; it is now immersed in suburbia. SAMBICA’s 30+ buildings are spread over 9 acres on the shores of Lake Sammamish in Bellevue, Washington.
Today, SAMBICA offers youth summer camps and retreat ministries. SAMBICA provides both overnight camps, day camps, and a high school leadership program during the summer months. Approximately 100 staff members are hired each summer to run the camp operations in roles such as counselors, lifeguards, boat drivers, and kitchen staff. Over 2,300 children attend SAMBICA’s summer programs each year.
During the fall, winter, and spring seasons SAMBICA serves other nonprofit organizations, schools, and churches through hospitality programs. SAMBICA’s quality food, great customer service, and convenient location provide the perfect setting for reflection, relaxation, and team building.
SAMBICA is a member of CCCA (Christian Camp and Conference Association). CCCA exists to proclaim the power and benefits of the Christian camp and conference experience, and to provide leaders at member organizations with ongoing encouragement, professional training, and timely resources. Driven by the need to solve common problems and gather new ideas, several regional groups of Christian camp and Bible conference leaders in the United States and Canada began to meet informally in the late 1940s and early 1950s. These independent coalitions later combined their efforts under the name Christian Camp and Conference Association International, and eventually incorporated in 1963.
Every year, nearly eight million people are involved in the programs of CCCA member camps and conferences, and tens of thousands come to faith in Jesus Christ through that experience. What’s more, 120,000-plus churches in America are served by CCCA member organizations, and more than 420,000 adults are now involved in full-time Christian work as the result of decisions made at CCCA member camps and centers.
SAMBICA is a member based association made up of all the donors who give an annual amount of $300.00 or more. The Board of Directors and Staff provide the membership with an Annual report each year and usually host a scheduled Annual meeting for those members who would like to attend and ask questions. The Board of Directors is self-perpetuating, but the Members have within the bylaws the right to call for a meeting of the association and replace up to one third of the Board if they would need to do so. This keeps the Board accountable to the membership in their governance responsibilities.
SAMBICA is managed by a qualified team of full time staff, led by an Executive Director, Marketing/IT Director, Ministries Director, Program Director and several managers. Ten full time staff members are supported by hourly staff, seasonal staff, interns, and volunteer staff which maintain the ongoing ministry and programs. Together the board and staff keep the ministry relevant, focused and looking toward the future.
SAMBICA is held accountable to its Board of Directors, which has fiduciary responsibility over the camp & retreat center. The Board meets monthly to review all the financial data. Anyone may request a copy of SAMBICA’s financial statements.
