It’s not every day one gets to experience a 95th birthday, or at least not as lavish and exciting as the one held on camp last Tuesday. SAMBICA was blessed to experience a birthday over the summer and our team could not wait to share the celebration with our fantastic donors, friends, and family.
I was honored to take a leading role in designing the evening. Although I have only been here for a short amount of time, I have always felt a part of the legacy of SAMBICA. What better way to celebrate the birth of a place that has inspired generations to a relationship with Jesus Christ than time spent giving thanks to God for all that He has done and is doing.
The theme was inspired by the date 1919, that brought in the roaring 20’s. A gold, silver, and black color scheme made for a simple, yet elegant evening. The centerpieces held enough glitter to light up the night sky. I am positive we have forever bedazzled the Dining Hall flooring for many, many years to come.
Our chef, once again, cooked to perfection. Pork lion with rosemary and garlic, scalloped potatoes, Brussels sprouts, the list goes on and on. You know your food exceeded all expectations when multiple requests were made for the name of our caterer. Dessert was the icing on the cake … birthday cake that is. The chairman of our Board, Roy Cress, was asked to blow out all 95 candles after having played “Happy Birthday” on his accordion.
My favorite part of the evening was the program in which many stories from the past, present, and future were shared with smiles, laughter, and an astronaut. All I could think about was what an awesome God we serve to be at a camp on the lake, in the Pacific Northwest, standing on decades of memories, where no end is in sight!
I personally want to thank everyone involved since 1919 and those who continue to serve with a joyous heart. Thank you for making this a place where people see God, create lifelong friendships, and shine the light of Christ in our community. SAMBICA is truly, a Light on the Lake.
Happy Birthday SAMBICA. Here is to 95 more years to come!
